What’s Inside the Crew Dragon?

Super Draco Booster Bays

The Draco Booster Bays fit into the Crew Module and hold 2 Draco Boosters each.

Super Draco Thrusters

The Dragon spacecraft is equipped with 16 Draco thrusters used to orient the spacecraft during the mission, including apogee/perigee maneuvers, orbit adjustment and altitude control. Each Draco thruster is capable of generating 90 pounds of force in the vacuum of space.

Heat Shield

The heat shield’s 13-foot-diameter (4-meter) composite structure — located at the bottom, blunt end of the Dragon capsule — is detachable and interchangeable between the reusable spacecraft in SpaceX’s Dragon fleet. SpaceX installs thermal protection tiles on the composite structure to protect the spacecraft from the searing heat of atmospheric re-entry at the end of each mission.

Nose Cone

The nose cone opens to a windowed cupola, where astronauts can see into space. In order to create the nose cone, you will need to complete Part 1 of the Crew Module.

Crew Module

The Crew Module is the pressurized section of the craft. It can carry up to 7 astronauts.
